10 THINGS PEOPLE SHOULD START DOING
Posted Monday, 12 October 2015 // 11:36 am
#1 Keep the door open for others. Whether you’re a gentleman or a lady, you should always hold the door open for the people that are maximum 2m away from you. Ladies, do wake up. You want equality; it starts from the basic okay? Don’t always expect the guys to hold the door for you and think you have every right to not touch the door handles. Equality means we hold the door open for everyone, regardless of race or sex. To have equality is to not expect gentlemen. But guys, please do offer, we’ll appreciate it even if we don’t expect it. #2 Say “Thank you” and “Please” How hard is it to say “Thank you” when someone has done you a favour and “Please” when you ask for one? Show people that you appreciate their help even if they did not do you any help at least they try. Say “Thank you” for their effort. Please say “Please” when you’re asking for a favour. No one owns anyone; you have zero rights to order anyone. Should you require help, ask and not demand. Most parents are the rudest being to their baby kids, they order them around thinking it is okay but it is not okay! If you think it is okay to not say “Thank you” and “Please”, your kid will think it is okay too. Do our future generation a favour and be polite. #3 Apologise for the inconvenience caused. This is basic manners right? Why do people have such big egos that the word "sorry" is not in their dictionaries? You made a mess then please say you're sorry. You're late then please say you're sorry. You broke something then please say you're sorry. I don't know how many times I have spilled service waters in restaurants and cafes, basically I'm so clumsy, and I spill a lot of water. Every single time, I will feel so bad for the waiters and waitresses that I can't help but keep saying sorry. Say it and mean it. #4 Always reponse/reply. I'm sure we all ignore texts and messages, which we shouldn't. I've learnt from the working world that "Noted" is such an important word and everybody uses it every day. It's just a way to acknowledge and to say I've received it. I tend to ignore group chats more mainly because I'm too lazy to read or 60% of the time the messages don't require my attention. I'm not saying you should reply messages immediately but you know, postpone it and maybe reply later? A few days later is better than no reply? Okay, you can just leave it there when the conversations end, mutual understanding. Don't just leave things there when a reply is expected. #5 Tip places with no service charge. It's sad that most food and beverages places pay peanuts for long hour shifts and it's even sadder they don't get tipped. Actually, places with service charges don't mean their staff get paid more. Oh, you know what? Just tip them. 50cents will do too. #6 Offer to help. "Do you need help with that?" "Can I help you?" "Is there anything I can do for you?" "Can I get you anything?" Not that difficult to ask right? Usually people will say, "No, thank you." "It's okay, I can manage it." "Nope, I'm good." but to offer help will make one's day better. At least they know someone cares for them and it's the thoughts that count. #7 Take the flyers People that don’t take flyers are usually the people who have never distributed any before. I can understand why people don’t take flyers, to them, they are just rubbish. People hardly ever bother to read any flyers. I have distributed brochures before, when I worked at The Rotisserie, you have no idea how rejected and sad we will feel when people rejects our flyers and worst of all, ignore us. The faces I remember and the strangers I am thankful for are the ones that actually take the brochures. I don’t care what you’re going to do with it bring it to the nearest bin and throw, read it or keep it I really don’t care. Just take it. You might have think you have already taken it yesterday and you don’t want it today but please, do us a favour and take it. Our bosses knew we’re targeting the same crowd every day and still have us stand there to distribute flyers, do you think he cares half the people have already taken the flyer yesterday? I used work at IBP and I walk by the overhead bridge every morning to take the shuttle bus, which is 40cents per ride, I see the same few uncles distributing the same flyers since day one. The only people that cross the bridge are the same group of people every morning, we all go to IBP. I take the same flyer every day and threw it into my office bin every morning. You think it’s a sin to take and throw, but if you don’t take it, the uncle would never finish his job and most probably won’t be paid enough. Just take it, you’re doing these distributor a HUGE favour. #8 Don’t say “It’s okay” when it’s really not okay. Saying it's okay will lead to people taking advantage of you. To say it's okay is as good as saying, "You can do it again, I don't mind." Deep down, we all know it's not okay. The world needs to be more direct and more honest about feelings. Spare the misery; you don't have to suffer. #9 Smile. Cause why not? Smiling can instantly improve your mood even if it's a forced one. Smiling causes your brain to release endorphins, which are responsible for making us feel happy, and they also help lower stress levels. Smiling in the morning is so important to the people around us; nobody likes enter a train filled with grumpy face. Seeing some happy faces in the early morning can instantly brighten someone's day. Not forgetting it's attractive too! ;) #10 Share. Sharing is caring and things are always better when you share it with someone. An experience, a certain food, funny videos, a good joke or a blanket, it's always funnier, warmer and better when you have someone to enjoy it with. If you can't find someone nice, be that someone nice. tumblr |
