VOLUNTEERING.

I do volunteer work rather often and I don't mind my actions not being recognised because what made me want to do volunteering work in the first place are the smiles on others' faces. Seeing their smile, their silent "thank you"s is more than enough for me. Many secondary schools bring students out to do volunteering work in exchange for some CIP hours. How many of them did it because they genuinely wanted to help? I guess we were taught that volunteer work is done because it benefits us in some way or another. To be honest, the only thing we should benefit from volunteering work is happiness, life lessons and friends. I know the government wants to encourage more people to give back to the community but are they doing it wrongly? The drive to volunteer is no longer passion but the benefits we get. I know there are some volunteers that do it willingly, we just want to make a difference in the community. What about the rest? The image of Singaporeans is tarnished. Sometimes I feel that Singaporeans need to wake up and start thinking. I cannot believe we actually have a " No urination" signs in void decks..... What does it says about our people? Isn't it common sense we're not suppose to urine in common areas? Or we do not have common sense? straits time |
