VOLUNTEERING.

I do volunteer work rather often and I don't mind my actions not being recognised because what made me want to do volunteering work in the first place are the smiles on others' faces. Seeing their smile, their silent "thank you"s is more than enough for me. Many secondary schools bring students out to do volunteering work in exchange for some CIP hours. How many of them did it because they genuinely wanted to help? I guess we were taught that volunteer work is done because it benefits us in some way or another. To be honest, the only thing we should benefit from volunteering work is happiness, life lessons and friends. I know the government wants to encourage more people to give back to the community but are they doing it wrongly? The drive to volunteer is no longer passion but the benefits we get. I know there are some volunteers that do it willingly, we just want to make a difference in the community. What about the rest? The image of Singaporeans is tarnished. Sometimes I feel that Singaporeans need to wake up and start thinking. I cannot believe we actually have a " No urination" signs in void decks..... What does it says about our people? Isn't it common sense we're not suppose to urine in common areas? Or we do not have common sense? straits time FUTURE.

Does the future scares you? I admit it scares me. Where will I be 10 years later? What will I be doing? How will I look like? Am I holding someone's hand, talking about love? Will I die without finding the purpose of living? I'm scared of not just my future but the world's future too. It scares me how much we depend on machines now. Why, you ask. Do you know the difference between a home-cooked food and food from a hawker? The taste of love and warmth cannot be found in the food from the hawker. In other words, food cooked by machine will not taste of love and warmth. Only humans are capable of showing love. Will our future children know what is mother love? Or all they know is who is their mother? Parents of today leave their children under a maid's care, but in the world's future, will we still have maids? Or all we're left with are machines? I may sound really mean and selfish in this post but face it, it's the truth. It will happen one day. Look at Singapore, we shot up to first world in such a short time. Once a construction worker, now a business man. We are all constantly trying to improve our people's standard of living, helping the third world country come up to first world. But without the third world people, who is the road sweeper? Who is the construction worker? Who will be your maid? Does it scares you now? One day, someday, not in our days but in the future, we'll all be in suits and tie and there'll be no blue collar workers. Your food will be cooked by machines, delicious but does it taste of love? We're so obsessed with technology, constantly improving, and we often forget about the nature. In the world's future, will there still be flowers? Will our children know what is a flower or what they know about flowers is just as much as what we know about dinosaurs now? Future world is so dull and orderly it scares me. Everything is set perfectly on the machine without love. Is technology our slaves or the other way round? I, Robot. A film that describes everything, we trust them but can they be trusted? I might be over thinking but because we complain so much, one day when robots are our maids, we would write under reviews, " Everything is perfect but it'll be better if they are a little more human." And slowly, they will think too. Start freaking out. I'm kidding. Take one step at a time, worry about your own future first. THIS HOLIDAY.

This one and a half month packed with fun-filled activities holiday is coming to an end. I've grown and learnt a lot. No doubt it was tiring but it was GREAT! This wonderful time of life begun with my 18th birthday celebration, it happened during my exams week but taking that day off and went to Marina Bay Sands Skypark that made me feel like I'm on the top of the world was totally worth it! Practice what we preach. I would be a hypocrite if I didn't do any volunteering work this holiday, am I right? HAHAHAHA! Give what we have in hand. I have time and energy, so I went to Willing Hearts' Soup Kitchen with Jurong Spring Community Center's V2 to wash, cook and pack food before delivering it to the elderly! My childhood friend I know since 4, Zihui is a Pisces too! #piscesareawesome ! We had a great catch up at her place, Domino's, Disney Frozen and some alcohol to celebrate her birthday. I swear we can share about anything! That's how close we are. Family Time! Across the borders to some Thai temple and dinner at breeks with my parents! Streets of JB And And, River Safari with them on the other weekend to see the cutie pandas! HEHEHE! River Safari Trip I guess that one friend I meet up with the most this holiday gotta be Jiahui! Adventure at Bukit Timah Hill with her and lots of short random meet ups at Jurong Point at our favouriteeeee dessert shop. Being with her is the best, I can totally be crazy with her. FOC? Freshmen Orientation Camp uhhhh! Being part of it was a love hate thing! All the time we spent in school for prep camp was cray cray! Preparing of props for nightwalk, playing the same game over and over again, yelling the same cheers and selfies with the other fellow game masters was tiring. BUT! What made it all fun was the late night talks in bunk, catching sunset and going thru thick and thin together. What goes around comes around! I was always being scared during nightwalk, this time round, it was my turn! I swear it was hilarious watching the freshies scream! No regrets!:)
(With other facils)
Another volunteer event, in fact it was the best event I've ever volunteer for! Being a facilitator for CARE SG at St Pats for 3 days 2 nights was no doubt exhausting but memorable! These 1T boys are mischievous, hyperactive and at the same time so adorable and lovable! At first, getting them to do anything was totally impossible! You ask them to sit down, you turn around and turn back, they are running everywhere already. But as the days past, understanding every individual made everything easier. At the last day, they all wish to extend the camp, I wish I could too, but every beginning has an ending.... YuHua Harmonica Band is a big part of my life, I cannot imagine life without them! Marche with my section mates, balloon exhibition at Marina Square and ending the day at iLight with Sam and Cheehow! I miss playing music together with them as a band. I miss the days where all I need to do was do well for O level... What's holiday without a chalet? YHHB chalet was totally a break for me from all the FOC preparations! BBQ, midnight cycling, majong, crazy drinkings and horror films, totally a teenage chalet! Advanced birthday celebration for Cassidy, Sam and Janis! I have no idea how people cycle couple bikes! It's practically the hardest thing on earth! I couldn't control the bike at all! I kept crashing into lamp post and trees... Oh hais! We laughed so hard till our tummies hurt and couldn't cycle. Memories.:) Marina Barrage with some APSN kids! It's actually my second time working with APSN kids, the first time was with YHHB at APSN Tanglin, this time it's at APSN katong! I just love working with kids. They're innocent, their smiles are honest and happiness is purest! Seeing others happy, makes me happy!:D You know? I cannot take clubs, but pubs or bars are fine! The Beer Market with clique, Nicolette and Andy's friends to celebrate his 25th birthday. He's 5 years away from 30 years old already! Old man! HAHAHAHA! Too much to drink. 2degree ice exhibit, honestly speaking it wasn't worth the money but I didn't regret! I love the ice slide!!!! Yea, I practically behaved like a kid when I saw the slide. I guess I don't grow up. Playground and balloons still excites me like how it would 15 years ago! Food Hotel Asia 2014, biennial event! Too much food to see, too many booths to check out! it was at Expo and it used up all 10 halls! Ranging from alcohol to bakery to hospitality! It was totally an eye opener for me but I was kind of disappointed with the things they sell at the bakery at Hall 1. 4 people, 4 personality but 1 clique. Celebrated Celine's 19th birthday at Chomp Chomp with clique and Nicolette, Huili, Ellysa and Engsiew! Thanks to the 4 of them, surprise success! It was my first time at Chomp Chomp and the only thing I was amazed by was how enormous their drink was! FOP just ended this event! This, I have to thank Terence for asking me to join or I'll have missed out so much fun! Being the group leader of class 01 was amazing! We started out last at the amazing race but we came in first at the end of the day! 01 is so enthusiastic, well, most of them! No matter how gross the games are, they all played! I'm proud of them! So much shouting, I'm slowly losing my voice already! Some dates here and there with some other people but just to sum it up, it's a awesome holiday~ A few more events before this holiday ends! Yuhua Secondary annual Speech day tomorrow and a meet up with Jolene this Saturday before Crystal's performance at Republic Poly! They have yet to happen but no doubt they will be hell lots of fun! Having so much fun means lesser time to work. Yea, I'm pretty much broke after not working for so many weeks. But I think I can survive till my next pay comes in. Next week is the start of year 2, I'm kind of scared? Because of the intimidating modules and dip+ I'll be having. I know I can survive though, tough times don't last right? The next big event will be a public event, organising it is definitely not easy but I'm sure with the help of 2 intelligent guys, nothing is impossible! So, look forward to it, okay? hehehehehe! ^-^ Till the next time! xoxo |
